The short version

Peptide health claims often arrive in the same language: repair, energy, appetite, longevity or sexual function. The evidence behind those words is not equally strong. This desk examines four widely discussed compounds and asks a simple set of questions. Was the result seen in people, animals or cells? Did the study measure a health outcome, a laboratory marker or a feeling reported by participants? Does the claim stay within the population that was studied?

Semaglutide has large controlled trials tied to weight, cardiovascular and kidney outcomes. NAD+ research often shows that a precursor can raise a blood marker, while broader anti-ageing promises remain unsettled. BPC-157 has extensive animal work but almost no dependable human efficacy evidence. PT-141, also called bremelanotide, has controlled human studies for a narrow indication. Reading those records side by side shows why the label “peptide” says little about evidence quality.

Four claims, four standards of proof

Peptides Health treats every health claim as a chain of evidence. The first link is the intervention itself: a prescribed peptide medicine, an endogenous molecule, a nutrient precursor or an experimental research compound. The next link is the model. A randomized human trial can answer a different question from a rodent injury model, a cell experiment or a community review. The final link is the endpoint: what investigators actually measured.

The distinctions matter here. Semaglutide trials measured body weight and major clinical events in large groups [2][3][4]. NAD+ precursor studies measured blood NAD+ and selected functional or metabolic outcomes, yet the current review literature still describes human efficacy as limited [8][9][10][12]. BPC-157 research includes vascular signaling and ulcer healing in laboratory models, while a recent review found only a very small human pilot literature [13][14][16][17]. Bremelanotide trials used validated desire and distress measures in a defined clinical population [19][20][21].

A result is not discarded because it is early. It is placed at the right level. Mechanistic evidence can explain plausibility. Animal evidence can justify further study. A biomarker can show biological activity. None automatically proves a broad health benefit.

What “research peptide” means at this desk

The term covers chemically and legally different things. Semaglutide is a peptide-based prescription medicine that activates the GLP-1 receptor. PT-141 is the research name commonly attached to bremelanotide, another approved prescription medicine, but one aimed at central melanocortin signaling rather than metabolic incretin signaling. BPC-157 is an experimental peptide without an approved therapeutic indication. NAD+ is different again: it is an endogenous coenzyme rather than a peptide, but it appears in the same health-optimization conversation through precursor supplements and compounded wellness services.

That mixed roster is useful because it exposes a common reasoning error: carrying confidence from a well-studied member of a category over to every other member. Approval, controlled trials and validated endpoints belong to a specific compound, formulation, population and claim. They do not transfer by association. The comparison desk keeps those boundaries visible.

Endpoints, surrogates and unsupported extensions

A clinical endpoint records something that directly matters to health or function. A surrogate is an indirect measure used as a stand-in, such as a blood concentration, imaging feature or signaling response. Surrogates can be valuable, but they need validation before they can carry a larger promise.

Semaglutide offers examples of both direct and intermediate evidence. Trials have recorded major cardiovascular and kidney outcomes, not only laboratory changes [2][3]. NAD+ precursor trials reliably show movement in the NAD+ pool, but a higher circulating level does not itself establish longer life or broad disease prevention [8][12]. BPC-157 can activate a vessel-growth pathway in experimental systems [16]; that mechanism does not establish faster recovery in people. PT-141 changed brain processing and improved trial measures of desire and distress in the population studied [19][20], while extensions to other groups remain outside that evidence.

The audit therefore uses verbs carefully. A trial “found” an endpoint. A model “suggests” a mechanism. A biomarker “changed.” A community “reports” an experience. These are not stylistic preferences; they preserve what the source can actually bear.

How to use this reference desk

Each compound page begins with a plain-language orientation, then moves through identity, mechanism, findings, reported experience and safety. Numbered citations lead to a shared reference index. Study size, duration and effect estimates appear only with the source that supports them.

The editorial rule is conservative: the strongest claim on a page should never be stronger than its strongest relevant source. Community reports are presented only as anecdotal, not clinical evidence. Safety sections distinguish observed adverse events from theoretical concerns. The site does not convert study protocols into instructions, and it does not infer personal decisions from population-level evidence.

Start with semaglutide for the most mature clinical record, or move directly to NAD+, BPC-157 or PT-141. The contrast between them is the point: health claims become more useful when their evidence level is visible.
